Looks like we'll have quite a group coming to Bohemia on Wednesday. So far, there are nine friends confirmed. We are looking forward to it. Bohemia is the only restaurant on our list that we have tried before. It is Latin cuisine, with really good grilled beef, chicken and fish, liberal use of cilantro and wonderful risotto. I especially love the roasted corn kernels on every table. Bohemia has a wine list - we tried a red from Argentina. Stop 2 on the tour promises to be fun!
I chose the picture for the heading on the blog from a trip we took to Canada in 2007. This is the main street in Niagra-on-the-Lake, home to the Shaw Summer Theater Festival. The street is filled with unique shops, al fresco dining and lots of beautiful flowers. I thought it was a beautiful picture for our Summer World Tour. This was also where we ate the worst (and most expensive) hamburgers we've ever had. Who puts garlic - lots of it - in their hamburgers?
See you at Bohemia!

Off to a Great Start!
Our first stop, Stamna's Restaurant in Bloomfield for Greek food, was fabulous. The food was great, the staff very friendly and the atmosphere fun. We went with our friends, Alice and Neil, who, like us, had not dined here before. We started with a sampler of dips and fresh warm pita, followed by some terrific entrees. I enjoyed the moussaka - the best I have eaten. The spices in the food were delicious, but not overpowering. Of course we finished with traditional desserts, including a heavenly baklava. The consensus was that we could stop the trip and simply dine here every week and never make a dent in the extensive menu. We will definitely return.
We brought our two new favorite wines - Middle Sister Rebel Red, a red blend of zinfandel, merlot, cabernet and syrah, and PromisQuous, a delicious white blend of chardonnay, chenin blanc and gerwertztraminer. We discovered yesterday that both are made by a woman winemaker, Terry Wheatley, in Napa. We plan to try her Purple Cowboy, another red blend, next.
So our summer gastronomic world tour is off to a great start. Next week - Peru!

First Stop - Greece!
Alan and I hope you'll join us for our first stop on our Summer 2009 Gastronomic World Tour. We've passed Stamna Restaurant many times, but have never tried it. If the weather's nice, we'll ask for a table on the patio out front. After dinner, we can stroll down to the corner for dessert at Holsten's, known for its great ice cream, super homemade chocolate Easter bunnies and as the locale for the final scene of the Soprano's.
Stamna's is BYOB, so we'll bring the wine. When you e-mail me, let me know whether you like white or red. Hope to see you Friday!
