Our first stop, Stamna's Restaurant in Bloomfield for Greek food, was fabulous. The food was great, the staff very friendly and the atmosphere fun. We went with our friends, Alice and Neil, who, like us, had not dined here before. We started with a sampler of dips and fresh warm pita, followed by some terrific entrees. I enjoyed the moussaka - the best I have eaten. The spices in the food were delicious, but not overpowering. Of course we finished with traditional desserts, including a heavenly baklava. The consensus was that we could stop the trip and simply dine here every week and never make a dent in the extensive menu. We will definitely return.
We brought our two new favorite wines - Middle Sister Rebel Red, a red blend of zinfandel, merlot, cabernet and syrah, and PromisQuous, a delicious white blend of chardonnay, chenin blanc and gerwertztraminer. We discovered yesterday that both are made by a woman winemaker, Terry Wheatley, in Napa. We plan to try her Purple Cowboy, another red blend, next.
So our summer gastronomic world tour is off to a great start. Next week - Peru!
